The Good practice handbook

The Good practice handbook is the result of the MINERVA project’s Good practice Working group. It was conceived as a practical handbook intended to be a guide for the establishment, execution and management of digitisation projects, with particular focus on the cultural area.

The target audience of this handbook is teams within and across cultural institutions who are contemplating, or are already executing, digitisation projects. The document substantially reflects the outcomes of the Working group and in particular the research completed in connection with the 2nd NRG meeting in Alicante, Spain, in May 2002.

The core text of the Good practices handbook is articulated into ten categories, corresponding to as many steps of the digitisation process: project planning, selection of source material for digitisation, preparation for digitisation, handling the originals, the digitisation process, preservation of digital master material, metadata, publication, IPR and copyright, managing digitisation projects.
