Planning Kit for a Quality Site for Small and Medium Sized Museums
|go to content
The site may activate a discussion forum on specific themes in order to stimulate exchange of ideas and discussion on a particular topic. Messages sent to the forum are viewed on a Web page in chronological order or in a tree chart, for example grouped according to the answers to a particular message. The forum can be a tool for furthering transparency and for spreading awareness of the activities of the museum. Discussions on the following themes can be activated: care of the collection, restoration, planned events, acquisitions, exchanges, research, studies of the collections and materials, participation in specific national and international research programmes, scientific congresses etc. The use of an interactive tool such as a forum, helps foster a community of users aware of the activities and projects promoted by the museum.
Running a forum requires the active participation of a moderator to stimulate discussion. Experience has shown that a forum stays alive only if stimulated for a period of time. Free, open-source software platforms are advised for creating a forum.
