2001 the workíng group EUBAM has been
established. It was created as an extension of EUBIB, a group already existing
several years. EUBIB was a national focal point to connect European and national
activities for libraries. Due to the broadening of programmes and policies to
the whole cultural sector, it was necessary to enlarge the working group by
experts from the museum and the archival sector. The group was renamed EUBAM
(EU = European, B = Libraries (German: Bibliotheken), A = Archives (German:
Archive) and M = museums (German: Museen). Chair of EUBAM is Prof. Dr. h.c.
Klaus-Dieter Lehmann, the president of the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz
(Foundation Prussian Heritage) in Berlin. Beside experts from the different
fields the group consists of representatives of federal ministries as well as
ministries of the Länder and the German Research Council (DFG) and therefore
has a mandate to speak for the sector.
